Bitpro User Group Meeting: SQL Day

Today I got another chance to attend the Bangalore IT Professional User Group Meet (BITPro). The session was full practical session with lots of information on SQL Server.

We all assembled in Signature Building of Microsoft and just after the registration process Vinod Kumar M from Microsoft MTC started the session with his own unique style (Before this he chat with us for a full 15 minutes asking about work and discussing on different technology).

He took us through the amazing world of backup and recovery in SQL Server by covering the VLF , touching the Full backup model, sharing the importance of point in time recovery  and how the Transaction Log is reused. He suggested that not to shrink the DB is a good practice. Then he explained the concept of Data Allocation to Table. He asked 3 tricky questions and asked people to tweet him with the answer.

Recovery strategy is most important~ Vinod

Just after Vinod’s session we had a small Tea break and Mr.Arun Balachandran, Microsoft MVP started the SSRS session. He took us through the concepts and the different features of SQL Server 2008 Reporting Services and also explain some of the Admin Features. In just 90 minutes Arun did  justice to the SSRS and he almost touched all the features of SSRS 2008. He also introduced the Rendering Engine of SSRS. Vinod also pitched in and so us how you can use the F12 key while viewing a website to view the developer tools.

To conclude I should say that it was an extremely informative session for all the people gathered at the UG meet.

We must be thankful to @kaliyans (from DELL) for organizing such events.
